Touro University California's Metabolic Research Center is well positioned to conduct, focused, paradigm-shifting, state of the art, human research to address modifiable causes pertaining to the current epidemic of diabetes and obesity and translate it to the community in the fastest possible way. The Metabolic Research Center will turn a burgeoning scientific activity already happening into a common effort, centrally managed with a cohesive goal. 

Some of the research that is happening on our campus includes: 

  • AstraZenca Pharma Trial 
    Study Objective: To demonstrate the superiority of the change from baseline HbA1c achieved with the coadministered Saxagliptin 5mg and Dapagliflozin 5mg to either agent individually after 24 weeks.
    PI: Dr. Jay Shubrook

  • Theracos Pharma Trial (Now Recruiting)
    Study Objective: A double blind placebo controlled study to evaluate the effects of bexagliflozin on hemoglobin A1c in patients with type 2 diabetes and increased risk of cardiovascular adverse events.
    PI: Dr. Jay Shubrook

  • Diabetes and Driving (Now Recruiting) 
    Study Objective: Investigating correlations of hyperglycemia with impairments in driving performance in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
    PI: Drs. Shadi Doroudgar and Jay Shubrook
